Phase One
Worship Space
Worship of God is central to our identity as Christians. When we gather for worship at New Disciples we gather to sing songs, hear God’s word, and partake of communion elements, and additionally we
fellowship and encourage each other in life and faith. In Phase One, our worship space will be a casual setting allowing for participants to choose between sitting in rows or sitting at tables. Yet, the sacredness of the space will be felt in the central placement of a stone baptismal, a cross, liturgical banners, and the beautiful view of God’s nature through a clear glass wall.
Nursery
Babies, toddlers, and children are an integral part of our community as they bring joy to the heart and follow Jesus’ teaching, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14. Placed at the back of the worship space is a staffed nursery with windows that open to the worship space allowing parents, nursery attendants, and children to be part of the service while having their own private space.
Meeting Room with Sink & Storage
If you know anything about our congregation, you know that we enjoy spending time together and live our mission to nourish bodies and souls with the love of God. In Phase One, the meeting room will be used by small groups for Bible study, prayer, book discussions, continuing education opportunities, and more. During worship services where food is served, it will also serve as a space for plugging in crock-pots and washing utensils.
Entry
This transition space from our vehicles to our gathering spaces is a gathering space of its own. An area where we can welcome each other, store our winter coats, and learn about events taking place on the land, in the community, within our church family and at the church building.
Office Space
Our current pastor views her office as wherever she may be serving God in the world, so this space will primarily be used by our staff for communication, administration, and storage of office materials. Currently our office administrator keeps office hours from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers use the office during programming to prepare material for education, special services, communication, and to care for the church finances.
AV Control (Technology Booth)
We are very excited about our architect’s gift for creating sanctuaries and worship spaces that are acoustically friendly both with and without the use of microphones. Our AV Control area will be designed with the idea of it being volunteer run: simple, but purposeful, allowing for the projection of lyrics and visuals, as well as the adjustment of sound as needed.
Restrooms
Phase one includes three restrooms. There will be a men’s restroom and a women’s restroom, each with two stalls. There will also be a third non-gendered restroom placed in the nursery. A changing room will be available in the nursery.
Storage
We plan to keep storage at a minimum. There is storage space at the front of the worship space behind the baptistery to be primarily used for liturgical items. The storage to the back of the worship space will be used for tables and chairs. In addition there is custodial storage space for the cleaning & maintenance of the church.
