Future Phases
There is much left still to imagine for future phases of this building project. We recognize that the southwest side of Cedar Rapids is in a time of transition and we have purposely left the future phases of our project in a draft stage. We want to be flexible and available to our community. If we are blessed with funding sooner than later, future phases may include the following:
Kitchen
One item that we are looking forward to having is a kitchen. A kitchen will allow us more flexibility in providing meals for the church community as well as the broader community. A proper kitchen is more cost prohibitive so this has been kept for a future phase of the building project, unless funding allows us to move beyond phase one during the first stage of building.
Imagine a childcare space that is sensitive to a multi-cultural audience and attentive to the needs of parents who work a variety of shifts. This is just the beginning of our vision for the creation of a childcare that will best serve our neighbors living on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. Within our congregation there are several people who have childcare training and experience. If we can find financial support for this project we will be better able to vision the architectural details needed to make this dream come true.
This childcare space will be designed with a dual purpose, serving both for childcare and for our children’s ministry programming. Interested in learning more about our current children’s ministry?
Larger Entry Fellowship Area
We believe that a large welcoming entry space helps to create an environment of relationship. This space will include comfortable living room atmosphere seating spaces, tables and chairs where people can sit down for a hot beverage and conversation, and space that is friendly to children.
Music Room
Doesn’t everyone love some type of music? We use music to express ourselves, to worship, and to connect with each other. We aren’t professionals, yet we are all invited to learn how to better communicate through music. The music room will be used as a practice space for those who are interested in leading the congregation in song or sharing their gift with the community.
Meeting Rooms
Disciple Groups are part of our opportunity for spiritual growth here at New Disciples. A Disciple Group is usually a small group of people who meet for a designated time period, for a pre-determined purpose such as: discussing recent movies, Bible study, prayer, book club, art projects, and community service. Meeting rooms will be designed with these opportunities in mind. Interested in joining a Disciple Group?
More Office Space
Our future office will create a cooperative environment that also allows for private and confidential conversation. There will be a study for our pastor, office space for our family ministry, music ministry, childcare program director, volunteer work area, and office administration. A separate restroom will also be provided for the staff.
Additional Restrooms
Additional restrooms that match the building use purposes will also be provided.
Flexible Space
In one of the future phase drawings there is an open space that hasn’t yet been designated because we want to be open how our mission will have evolved by time we build the future phase. Could it be a food pantry? A resource center for immigrants? A community center for seniors?
