History
Sometimes God whispers and at other times God speaks quite loudly.
Between the summer of the 2008 flood and the summer of 2011, First Christian Church and Cedar Christian Church heard God speak. As a result in July of 2011, these two congregations decided to give up what they had known, sell their buildings and all their shared possessions, and re-start as a new community of faith on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids.
On October 23, 2011, New Disciples of Cedar Rapids was born!
On our one-year anniversary, Oct. 2012, we purchased 10 acres of land that is located on Williams Blvd. between Menards and Highway 30. A year later, we were given another 7 acres next door.
We have met in a variety of spaces, from a store front on Wiley Blvd. to the basement of a church, to funeral homes, to garden and recreational space on Williams Blvd. Each space has taught us something new about what it means to be church. We are looking forward to what God will teach us in the future!
We are a people of rich heritage and looking to serve our community with God's love.
